What is International Year of the Reef 2018?

The International Coral Reef Initiative (ICRI) has declared 2018 as the third International Year of the Reef!

 For IYOR 2018, ICRI encourages us to:
  • strengthen awareness globally about the value of, and threats to, coral reefs and associated ecosystems;
  • promote partnerships between governments, the private sector, academia and civil society on the management of coral reefs;
  • identify and implement effective management strategies for conservation, increased resiliency and sustainable use of these ecosystems and promoting best practices; and
  • share information on best practices in relation to sustainable coral reef management.
60 countries and groups around the world will celebrate International Year of the Reef 2018! More on the International Year of the Reef 2018 website and blog.

What is Celebrating Singapore Shores?

The Singapore marine community joins in the celebrations of International Year of the Reef! In 2018 and hopefully, the years beyond.

Celebrating all our shores: from mangroves to seagrasses, rocky shores to reefs, even our living artificial shores!

All are welcome to join in!

What are some of the activities planned?

One key activity will be the Singapore Blue Plan 2018, drawn up by science and expert contributors, as well as stakeholders, for submission to government in the third quarter of 2018.

The community will also offer lots of events to celebrate our shores!

There will be fun activities for everyone to appreciate Singapore's shores.

As well as activities to start conversations about and take action for our shores.
