Volunteer for Heron Watch with NParks: training registration closes 8 Dec

Ideal for families and those who want to learn more about the 19 species of herons, egrets and bitterns found in Singapore! And explore our wetlands to spot them.
Anyone aged 12 and up are welcomed! Experience not required, training will be provided. Registration closes 8 Dec!

Heron Watch is a citizen science initiative by NParks to get Singaporeans involved in collecting valuable information about the herons, egrets and bitterns across Singapore. With the data collected from many survey transects across various areas in Singapore, we can start piecing together information about where these birds are found and in what numbers! This information will contribute towards better park management and conservation measures.

For beginners, training workshops on bird identification and survey techniques will be organised on these dates:
  • 10 Dec (Sun)
  • 16 Dec (Sat)
  • 17 Dec (Sun)

Heron Watch will be held on 13-21 Jan 2018.

Participants will only need to conduct the survey on one of the mornings during this period.

You will be assigned a survey site closer to the date of the survey. These are the survey sites.
  • North (e.g. Woodlands, Admiralty, Yishun)
  • North-east (e.g. Punggol, Sengkang)
  • South (e.g. Downtown, Kent Ridge, Tiong Bahru)
  • East (e.g. East Coast, Tampines)
  • West (e.g. Jurong, West Coast, Bukit Batok)
  • Central (e.g. Ang Mo Kio, Bishan, Toa Payoh)

Community and school groups of more than 20 people interested in surveying multiple sites please email CIN@NParks.gov.sg to schedule a private training session.
